Powder Coating Technician 3rd Shift

Department: Manufacturing

Location: St. Paul, VA

Basic Purpose

The Powder Coating Technician performs powder coating operations/applications and operates equipment. This includes participation in both design and production related topics and requires effective cross functional collaboration with other manufacturing departments, quality, and management.

 

Responsibilities

  • Ensures quality application of powder coatings to fabricated components.

  • Prepares manufactured products for powder coating by blasting and chemically washing off products prior to powder coating.

  • Assists moving carriages and carts in and out of spray booths.

  • Cleans and maintains powder coating guns and equipment.

  • Cleans booth thoroughly during each color change.

  • Troubleshoots powder coating equipment.

  • Touches up and reworks material, as necessary.

  • Performs any other duties as assigned or directed by Team Leader or Supervisor as production needs require.

  • Maintains good housekeeping and follows established safety procedures.

  • Follows all policies, procedures, and work instructions including Employee Handbook, Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Manufacturing Operating Procedures (MOPs), Job Safety Analysis (JSAs), and Safety Manual.

  • Maintains awareness of individual contribution to and impact of the quality, safety, environmental, and product compliance policies and activities; reports all quality issues, unsafe acts, and unsafe conditions to the proper personnel.

 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED; or equivalent experience.

  • Experience in powder coating a plus, but not required.

  • Must have basic math skills.

  • Ability to read, write, and follow oral and written instructions.

  • Able to work in a team environment and interface with a diverse workforce.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. unassisted.

  • Ability to use various tools and measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, tape measure, dial indicator, and feeler gauges.

  • Able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and crouch for an 8-hour shift.

  • Must be able to distinguish shades and colors.

  • Must have strong knowledge of material prep and powder application.

  • Must understand powder coating equipment adjustments and maintenance.

  • Must be able to use hands and fingers to handle or feel machinery, equipment or parts and work near moving mechanical parts.
